Everyday ethics in community-based

participatory research

Professor Sarah Banks,

Co-director, Centre for Social Justice and Community Action,

Durham University

This public lecture explores a range of ethical issues that arise in community-based participatory research (CBPR).  CBPR is an increasingly popular research methodology that aims to mobilise the local and indigenous knowledges of people based in communities of place, identity and interest. Whilst many of the ethical challenges in CBPR are common to social research generally, the dynamic, complex and value-based nature of CBPR gives them particular prominence.

Professor Sarah Banks has a background in community development and worked in the voluntary sector and local authority social services before joining Durham University. Her degrees are in philosophy, social history and social work. Her research interests include professional ethics, community development, community-based participatory research and work with young people.
