Event description

Description

The Manifesto of the Communist Party (commonly known as the Communist Manifesto) was written in late 1847 by Karl Marx and Frederick Engels and published by the Communist League in February 1848.

It sets out the Marxist analysis of class society which Marx and Engels had been jointly developing since they first started collaborating together.

It is a ground breaking work encompassing philosophy, political economy and the case for socialism and turns the demand for socialism from a utopian enterprise into a scientific endeavour - based on the sound footing of both dialectical and historical materialsm. An enterprise based on the central role of the working class as the grave digger of capitalism and the capitalist class.

Come and hear about the central ideas of the Manifesto, how it came to be written and about its continuing relevance today.

Our speaker is Jim Whyte. Jim is a former trade union tutor and organiser of the Communist Party and is an expert in this topic. A fomer student of Jim has said:

"I am gutted I cannot attend this event as I will be abroad. Jim Whyte is one of my favourite Marxist Tutors"

The event will be excellent. The meeting will have a bookstall and copies of the Morning Star.
