We are holding a public meeting so we can update interested members of the public on our thinking for the Central Library and Graves Art Gallery.
Last week we published a cabinet paper on our website to update the council on a programme of activities that has been developed.
You can download the paper here www.sheffield.gov.uk/libraries
One of the projects outlined in the paper is a proposal to undertake feasibility studies into the viability of developing a five star hotel in our Surrey Street building.
This project is only in the very early first stages. More details will emerge as it develops.
However, even at this point it is clear that it could provide a unique opportunity to relocate the Central Library in to a modern, fit for purpose, inclusive and inspiring building. It could also create the option of broader and better access to the Graves Art collection. A new five-star hotel would also be a significant boost to Sheffield's economy. So these options are worth exploring.
This meeting is an opportunity for the public to share their ideas and any concerns and hear more about the potential advantages of this approach. The Council will be outlining the guarantees it is hoping to put in place, should the project proceed to the next level.
