PUBLIC-PARLIAMENT FORUM ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 17
Thu 25 May 2017, 14:00 – 16:00 BST
The UK has been a backbone for the development of Africa through the DFID and there is even a greater need now, than ever, for developed countries to support developing countries with additional resources to aid transitioning from MDGs to SDGs. Achieving Goal 17 of the Agenda 2030 requires that Government makes coherent policies that will strengthen partnerships with developing countries and demonstrate Its commitment to reducing global inequalities among nations.
The Houses of Parliament in collaboration with AlphaZULU Advocates and GlobalNet21, civil society organisations promoting the Sustainable Development Goals in the UK, is holding a public session, on the day commemorating the Africa Union Day. The African Union is committed to Strengthening a people centered Union through active communication of the programmes of the African Union, the branding of the Union and participation of Member States and other stakeholders in defining and implementing the African Agenda. The session will bring together a diverse range of stakeholders to discuss the UK Government’s commitment to achieving SDG 17 and how policy and institutional coherence at National and International levels can accelerate changes and bring better outcomes for the people of Africa, helping to reduce the margin between global transformational Agenda 2030 and Africa’s transformational Agenda 2063.
Staff of the International Development Committee will talk about the Committee's on-going relevant inquiries, the implications for UK’s implementation of SDG 17 and how stakeholders can contribute to its scrutiny of relevant Government policies.
There will be contributions from a diversity of distinguished Panel and an open question session.
This session is part of a wider programme that aims to spread awareness of the processes and relevance of the institution of Parliament.
There are limited places at this event and places are available on a first come first served basis.
