Biography: Keith Madeira has been the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Coordinator and Cartographer for HMGoG since 2007. He completed his masters in Applied GIS in 2017 and is currently in the process of completing his PhD, which melds his love of Gibraltar's history with his practical knowledge of GIS. Old maps of Gibraltar have, since a very early age, been a topic of particular fascination with Keith, and he is currently looking into solving as many of their secrets as he can.
Summary: In Gibraltar, when we talk about the Moorish Castle, we are often referring to the Tower of Homage alone. However, the entire castle complex, as it existed hundreds of years ago, has slowly been engulfed by later modifications to the fortress. Fortunately, through the centuries, people have kept records of what Gibraltar looked like at the time, and, with the use of some modern technology, we can remind ourselves of what Gibraltar looked like back then.
