About this event

THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR DEPARTMENT FOR TRANSPORT EMPLOYEES ONLY

Transport is a major part of most of our lives. Whether we are using it for the school run, travelling to work (or more distant sunny shores) or just relying on the infrastructure that allows loved ones to visit us, our reliance on having an inclusive and accessible transport system is paramount.

The DfT works tirelessly to ensure that Transport is accessible to all people, so we can go about our day to day lives unhindered. This is an arduous task but one that the DfT is fully committed to.

To ensure that the Transport Network is accessible to all people, it is crucial that we consider the differing needs of all members of our society.

The Public Service Equality Duty (PSED) is a duty on public bodies and others carrying out public functions. It ensures that public bodies consider the needs of all individuals in their day to day work – in shaping policy, in delivering services, and in relation to their own employees.

The Equality Act 2010 introduced the Public Sector Equality Duty. This requires all public bodies to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited by the Act
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not
  • Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not

In order to ensure we have taken Due Regard of people with protected characteristics, the workshop will include a session on conducting Equality Impact Assessments. Equality Impact Assessments enable the department to:

  • Demonstrate due regard for the provisions of the Public Sector Equality Duty
  • Identify possible negative impacts of decisions on individuals and groups with protected characteristics and plan mitigating action accordingly
  • Identify additional opportunities to advance equality within policies, strategies, and services
  • Ensure that the Transport Network is inclusive and accessible.

This Training workshop is designed to support staff to fulfil our PSED obligations.

When you register for the event we will send you a calendar invite and nearer the date a TEAM’s link.
