Description

This workshop explains how the phenomenon of powerful public speaking is achieved, and provides you with a toolbox you to give it your best shot. Follow a simple formula regardless of how dry or complicated your content. This day will encourage you to give the talk that only you can give, brush off the nerves and anxiety and get your audience hanging off your every word. A fun and challenging masterclass for those who need to persuade, impress and captivate.

This workshop is strictly limited to 12 places so that the trainer is able to give each delegate individual attention throughout the day.

  • Talk Like TED includes a light lunch and refreshments
  • Registration is from 9am for a prompt 9.30am start

Learning objectives:

-Understand what an audience needs from you
-Increase Vocal Impact and body language
-Understand your personal style and how to utilise it
-Show passion in your delivery as well as clear insight to your subject
-Combat nerves, speak up and get your ideas heard
-Learn how to express yourself by standing out and impacting your audience
-Analyse the difference between communication that sticks, and information that gets forgotten
-Deliver a persuasive and memorable TED style presentation from a clear nine step method


Outline of the day:

1. Engage:

Activity One: Make it Memorable

Aims:
Understand that it’s not what you say, it’s how you say it
Vocal techniques for dynamic speaking with a focus on a warm, authoritative delivery
Demonstrate body language that expresses authenticity and impact to your audience

Talk: Aimee Mullins: My 12 Pairs of Legs

Theory: Merhabian’s Theory of Communication

Exercise: “Just a Minute” + Group discussion and demonstrations

2. Create

Activity Two: Make it Novel

Aims:
Make detailed and technical information accessible and unforgettable
Use unexpected statistics and facts to your emphasise and drive home your key point
Add value to your content in order to make your message understood in a short space of time

3. Deliver

Activity Three: Make it Emotional

Aims:
Deliver an emotionally charged experience
Perform in a way that shows insight into your content as well as sincere belief in your subject
Make it personal: Turn dry data into honest and inspiring communication

Exercise: ‘Systematic creativity: Map out the story’ Delivery + Group Discussion

4. Embed

Identify specific actions to enhance your presentation style
