Event description

Description

How and why is Birmingham linked to Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin’s success? Discover the link between the vibrant area of Handsworth and this famous Victorian architect and designer.

Legacy West Midlands explores positive stories of migration, which are exemplified by the Pugin family. Pugin’s father was a French émigré, whose son worked on one of the most iconic buildings in Britain, the Palace of Westminster.

This walking tour, organised as part of Birmingham Heritage Week, takes in the sights and sounds of Handsworth with particular reference to St Mary’s Convent, and explores Pugin's fascinating story!
