SCHOOL PUPIL WORKSHOPS- TO BE BOOKED THROUGH SCHOOL TEACHER/DEPARTMENT

Embroidered Sleep Mask and Lavender Pouch (Beginner)

The morning will focus on learning hand embroidery skills followed by an introduction to sewing machines, creating a lavender pouch. In the afternoon the embroidered fabrics will be used to create a sleep mask on the sewing machines. During the workshops we will have informal discussions around wellbeing.

Pupils will learn hand embroidery techniques and gain confidence on the sewing machine.

Create a zero waste tote bag (Beginner)

This workshops focuses on creating a Japanese style zero waste tote bag from industry donated cotton fabrics. During this workshop we will be discussing the importance of sustainability, small changes that can be made and an interactive discussion session.

The pupils will create a finished tote bag, gain confidence on the sewing machine and learn about sustainability through an interactive session.

Pyjama Trouser workshop (Intermediate)

All pupils should have attended one of the beginner workshops previously before attending this workshop.

Pupils will learn about garment construction - making a pair of unisex pyjama trousers, gaining confidence on the sewing machine and the overlocker machine.

Zipped Cushion workshop (Beginner/Intermediate)

3D appliqué, inserting a zip, using an over locker, stitching a seam. Using bonded strips of fabric to create a design onto the cushion and then construct a zipped cushion.

Pupils will gain confidence on the sewing machine and an introduction on the overlocker machine.

Free machine embroidery (Intermediate)

Learn how to use the machine in an creative approach using the needle as your pen to stitch a drawing. Free motion embroidery using inspiration from nature around Dumfries House.

This workshop allows pupils to have another technique to use within their portfolio or to add on details to their products.

Create a patchwork washbag (Intermediate)

This workshop uses scraps of fabric to create patchwork to create a larger piece of fabric as the front of a wash bag. Skills/techniques: inserting a zip, cutting out patchwork pieces, patchwork and fully lined product. During the workshop we will discuss the importance of sustainability.

The pupils will make a finished wash bag and will gain confidence on the sewing machine.

Workshop times 10-3.30pm

All Covid guidelines are in place and a risk assessment has been carried out. We will align with the school attending to make sure we follow the current restrictions in place within your school.
