WORKSHOPS FOR SCHOOL PUPILS

Workshop descriptions/levels:

Tote bag - Beginners level - Bondaweb appliqué, pivoting a corner, using an over locker, stitching a seam. We advise all pupils who have not attended our atelier before to complete this workshop. This workshop is at Beginners level.

Cushion - Beginners/intermediate- 3D appliqué, inserting a zip, using an over locker, stitching a seam. Using bonded strips of fabric to create a design onto the cushion

Rucksack - This workshop is an intermediate level- inserting a zip, fully lined product, stitching a seam, measuring and attaching straps. We ask that pupils are competent at sewing or have attended our cushion workshop.

Patchwork washbag - Beginners/Intermediate level - inserting a zip, fully lined product, stitching a seam, beginners and internediate patchwork front, great way to use up scraps - This workshop is easier if the pupils have previously inserted a zip.

Wrap skirt - Intermediate level - lay plan and create a wrap skirt with a frill edge. This workshop is aimed at intermediate level; pupils should have a good understanding of how to use the sewing machine and construction techniques.

Free machine embroidery - Intermediate level – Learn how to use the machine in an creative approach using the needle as your pen to stitch a drawing. Free motion embroidery using inspiration from nature around Dumfries House.

Embroidered jersey T-shirt - Intermediate level - Geometric hand embroidery and construction working with jersey fabric. This workshop allows pupils to learn hand embroidery stitches and work with jersey to construct a basic t-shirt.

From Pattern to Dress - Advanced level - skills would include - lay planning, fabric cutting, plain and French seams, overlocking, stitching a hem, attaching interfacing, attaching facings, attaching a pocket and attaching binding on a curve. - We ask that pupils are competent at sewing.

Tie Back Top – Advanced level - Stitching hems and seams, attaching binding on a curve, attaching sleeves, making and attaching tie fastenings, attaching a patch pocket, overlocking

Introduction to knit – Beginners - learn how to knit or if your pupils know how to knit we have product led workshops - Intermediate also available (subject to availability)

Introduction to weave - Beginners - Learn how to create a woven structure and how fabric is created. This workshop will cover the terminology and will allow pupils to work on colour awareness and create a sample on a frame loom (subject to availability)
