Workshop descriptions/levels
Tote bag - Beginners level, skills: Bondaweb appliqué, pivoting a corner, using an overlocker, stitching a seam.
Apron - Beginners level- patched pocket, bondaweb applique, stitching a Hem.
Cushion - Beginners/intermediate- 3D appliqué, inserting a zip, using an overlocker, stitching a seam.
Rucksack - This workshop is an intermediate level- inserting a zip, fully lined product, stitching a seam, measuring and attaching straps. We ask that pupils are competent at sewing or have attended our cushion workshop.
Washbag with covered buttons - Beginners/Intermediate inserting a zip, fully lined product, stitching a seam, covering buttons- - This workshop is easier if the pupils have previously inserted a zip.
Introduction to knit - leave his to knit or if your pupils know how to knit we have product led workshops - Beginners and Intermediate available (subject to availability)
Introduction to weave - Beginners - Learn how to weave (subject to availability)
Free machine embroidery -Intermediate level - Free motion embroidery using inspiration from nature around Dumfries House-
Embroidered jersey T-shirt - Intermediate level Geometric hand embroidery and construction working with jersey fabric -
From Pattern to Dress - Advanced sewing skills required - skills would include - lay planning, fabric cutting, plain and French seams, overlocking, stitching a hem, attaching interfacing, attaching facings, attaching a pocket and attaching binding on a curve. - we ask that pupils are competent at sewing.
Tie Back Top - Advanced sewing skills - Stitching hems and seams, attaching binding on a curve, attaching sleeves, making and attaching tie fastenings, attaching a patch pocket, overlocking

Future Textiles is an exciting project, currently ongoing at stately home Dumfries House in Ayrshire and at Trinity Buoy Wharf in london through the Prince’s Foundation .
The project brings together industry and education in 2 unique settings, in order to train the next generation with skills for the textile industry, by providing a range of no cost workshops suitable for secondary school teachers, pupils and those seeking employability skills.
To date, over 5000 participants have taken part in sewing, pattern drafting and woven textiles workshops, from secondary teachers to pupils from S1 – S6, as well as master classes and specialist training programmes for industry.
The project has received invaluable input since inception from key retailers, Fashion designers and fabric manufacturers both locally and nationally.
The project is co-chaired by Campbells of Beauly owner John Sugden and Patrick Grant, Director of Norton & Sons, E. Tautz, Hammond & Co, Cookson & Clegg and Community Clothing.
