About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

In this workshop, Genevieve will show you how to paint chicks and a cherry, using a Chinese brush and ink on unsized xuan paper. To achieve the little fluffly bodies, you will allow a little more water on the brush. This allows the ink to spread. You will also experiment with lighter and darker tones of ink.

Both these techniques are good practise for the upcoming “Mountains and Pagodas” workshop (scheduled for Thursday 7th August). In oriental brush painting, chicks are often partnered with other elements. In this workshop they are curious about a bright red cherry with its jaunty stem.

Chicks are fun because they can be painted with much character and humour. It’s the combination of the fluffiness combined with awkward legs and a large beak. As per usual with this type of painting on an absorbent paper, expect some challenges and embrace the uncertainty; all your chicks will be lovable!

Suitable for beginners or anyone who feels comfortable holding a brush. Dress in comfortable, loose clothing that allows free arm movement.
