Purposeful Participation Bootcamp

New Citizenship Project is a strategy and innovation consultancy driven by a belief that, given the right opportunity, people can and will shape the things that matter to them for the better.When we think of ourselves as citizens rather than consumers, we’re more likely to participate, volunteer and come together to make our society stronger. That’s why our mission at New Citizenship Project is to catalyse a shift to a more participatory, citizen-led society. Since 2014, we’ve worked with all types of organisations to create participatory strategies, cultures and projects that invite people to step into their power as citizens.

New Citizenship Project

A one-day training session for those in the cultural heritage sector, looking at how to make participation genuinely purposeful.

‘What are you trying to do in the world that’s so big you need more people - and more diverse people - to help you do it?’This is the BIG idea (and indeed question) at the heart of Purposeful Participation - an exciting and generative start point for cultural institutions to work with, opening up new avenues for participation, with people as participants in shaping cultural heritage, and institutions as places for that to happen.Whilst we know that participation is not a new idea in the Cultural Heritage sector, we believe that truly putting purpose at the heart of how you are working with people is. We&#x27;ve developed Purposeful Participation with 12 individuals from 6 organisations spanning the sector, and we&#x27;re excited to be sharing and building it further. You can read more about where this work came from<a href="https://www.culturehive.co.uk/resources/putting-the-purpose-in-participation/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> here. </a>But this is your chance to get involved.What we will unpack<ul><li>The Big Idea: Purposeful Participation, and how to get started</li><li>The Participation Strategy Map: A tool to help you articulate and work back from impact, rather than just delivering cultural experiences for people in the form of visitor attractions (exhibitions, shows etc)</li><li>Introducing the idea of Cultural Intraprenuer: Unpacking the characteristics needed to get going with this work</li><li>Inspiration from inside and outside the sector: What this work really looks like in practice</li></ul>Why New Citizenship Project?At New Citizenship Project we have a clear point of view: we believe that when people have the opportunity they can and want to shape the society they live in. And that how we involve people crucially starts with how we think of people.This training will be a blend of theory, case studies and practical tips and tools, aiming to equip you with ideas to try back at work to start to work with Purposeful Participation in your organisation. Feedback from previous New Citizenship Project Bootcamps:I found attending the Bootcamp was a bit like a finishing school, which enabled me to tweak our project just a few days before launching. So far the interest and uptake has been really encouraging and I don&#x27;t think our project would have been as strong without this.
