Event description

Description

In this informal and interactive session, James Mittra (Head of STIS) will try to answer all your questions and bust any myths surrounding academic careers within the university sector. He will provide a brief overview of the different types of academic roles/titles and potential career options and trajectories open to people with PhDs, and talk to you about what selection panels are looking for and how they will evaluate your accomplishments. We will also look at some job adverts and talk through some key points to consider when applying for post-doc, lectureship, and teaching/career development positions. This session will be particularly useful for later stage PhD students who do want to pursue an academic career within a university, and would like to know a bit more about the opportunities and challenges ahead.
