Description

Our one day conference aims to reflect on current brain injury services and will focus on areas of development in brain injury. External speakers will join Cygnet Health Care’s own clinicians to discuss provisions for people with traumatic, acquired and degenerative conditions; good practice models and ethos, interdisciplinary working and evaluation and outcomes.

Our keynote Speaker is Professor Mike Barnes, Chair of INPA and ABI Alliance. Please join us for what promises to be an excellent event. Lunch and refreshments throughout the day will be provided.

This a free and CPD accredited event. Certificates will be distributed after the event.

10:10 Managing Brain Injury in a Neuropsychiatry Setting; Benefits and Challenges Dr George El-Nimr, Consultant Neuropsychiatrist / Honorary Clinical Lecturer; Academic Secretary of the Faculty of Neuropsychiatry, Royal College of Psychiatrists

The talk will focus on the management of complex neuropsychiatric patients and how a well-resourced Multidisciplinary input makes a difference to patients and families; both in acute as well chronic phases. The talk will discuss the similarities and differences with regards to acquired and degenerative brain conditions in relation to clinical management and service provisions. Relevant service models will be discussed.

11:10 Management of Huntington’s Disease Dr David Craufurd, Consultant and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Neuropsychiatric Genetics, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Huntington’s disease (HD) is a progressive and eventually lethal neurodegenerative disorder, inherited as an autosomal dominant trait. This talk will focus on the progress made in recent decades with respect to symptomatic treatment and overall management of HD, and will describe promising recent advances towards the development of disease-modifying treatments for this and other inherited neurological disorders.

A critical look at the current rehabilitation pathway for someone with an acquired brain injury and make some suggestions for a way forward over the coming years. Can we do better?

13:45 Measuring Outcomes in Neuropsychiatry Dr Srinivas Lanka, Regional Medical Director – Cygnet Health Care

It’s essential for all stakeholders to be able to track the progress of service users at all times using an intuitive and holistic outcome measurement tool. Dr Lanka’s talk will focus on our outcome measurement tool, GAP-Np, which acts as a dashboard, detailing time sensitive progress in each clinical area of need, areas of concern and scope for further improvement.
