Putting the First into Housing First
A one day Conference, featuring expert speakers from academic, government and corporate backgrounds to present and discuss challenges and solutions to tackle the issue of homelessness in the UK. Homelessness is associated with sleeping on the streets, but this conceals the range and scale of the problem. Vast majority of homeless people are families or single people who are not ‘sleeping rough’ but staying with relatives and friends on a temporary basis. Others live in temporary accommodation, such as bed and breakfast hotels, hostels, night shelters and refuges. For many, this means living in poor quality accommodation that is detrimental to their health and well-being. A lot of research has been done on the causes of homelessness and issues facing people who are homeless. The aim of this conference is not to dwell on the already identified issues but to explore the Housing First framework and model proven to be working in the Unites States and Canada; and determine the suitability of such model and framework to the prevailing circumstances in the UK.
