Q&A with Flute Theatre
Event Information
About this Event
An opportunity to hear about the work of Flute Theatre – in particular, how they've adapted their performances into interactive online sessions for individuals with autism and their families.
This Q&A is preceded by a live event, observing how Flute Theatre works online with a young person and their family. This is a closed event for those working within SEND settings or cultural organisations looking to develop their SEND work. Please contact schools@anewdirection.org.uk to request to join.
This Q&A will form part of A New Direction’s I Am At Home Festival – an online celebration of creativity with SEND settings & disabled-led organisations. The festival was originally scheduled to take place in March 2020 but has now been reworked in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on sharing tools and practice in the context of recovery.
About Flute Theatre
Flute is a true ensemble; a group of pioneering actors led by Kelly Hunter, pushing the boundaries of Shakespeare performance for audiences across the world including those with autism. Flute combine pioneering research with artistic excellence.
“Kelly Hunter’s work imbued me with hope for the future of theater, and the accessibility of the theater industry as a whole. Watching her give people with autism their own literacy for Shakespeare and therefore watching them tap into a deeper emotional intuition inside themselves was not only beautiful and profound, but piercing on a human to human level. That is what theater is all about.” Adelaide Leonard" – feedback from a recent webinar with De Paul University
“My experience at Kelly Hunters workshop was an experience in incredible inspiration and engagement during a time where I am desperately seeking ways to light my creative fire. She is full of love and light as are all the Hunter Heartbeat actors, their energy is infectious, and their work is so important!” – Abigail Hendrick
