A guided exhibition tour of a fascinating period of Chinese History, led by leading University Lecturer and key contributor Dr Gregory Scott
About this event
Would you like to learn more about Chinese History, and take a guided tour through an exhibition of beautiful artefacts?
The Qing Dynasty and its sprawling Empire is part of a fascinating period of Chinese history; it saw China expand its integration of international culture, architecture and particularly language, becoming a melting pot of multiculturalism.
Qing is the focus of the latest exhibition at the John Rylands Research Institute and Library, and contains an absorbing series of items and artefacts from the period.
To help interpret and provide further information on the exhibition, we are excited to welcome key exhibition contributor Dr Gregory Scott to the Rylands, for an in-depth tour touching on language, interpretation, and the physical technology used to produce the items on display.
Dr Gregory Adam Scott is a Senior Lecturer in Chinese Culture and History at the University of Manchester, with an extensive background as a historian of late-Qing and Republican China. He is a Council Member of the British Association for Chinese Studies, co-founded the Asian Religions Research Network at University of Edinburgh, and holds memberships and senior positions at a variety of specialist institutions and groups. As someone with an intimate familiarity in the history of printing and book production during this era, Gregory's tour will be an engrossing deep-dive into this unique chapter of Chinese history.
