Description

QMUL Winter Graduation 2017 - Get Involved

Be a Mace Bearer or Stage Marshal, Join the Graduation Procession or be a Ticket Collection helper.

Graduation is a wonderful opportunity to see our students achieve their ambition to graduate in the company of their families, friends and the QMUL community.

This winter members of QMUL staff have the chance to nominate fellow colleagues, or volunteer themselves, to take part in Graduation, to recognise and reward positive contribution to QMUL.

This December, you can either volunteer yourself, or nominate a fellow colleague, to any of the following roles:

Mace Bearer:

The role of Mace Bearer is a very prestigious one, which involves leading the academic procession into the Great Hall and onto the stage in the ceremonies. Those chosen to undertake the role will wear a gown and carry the QMUL mace.

Stage Marshal:

Every ceremony, a stage marshal joins a representative from Academic Registry to ensure that students cross the stage in the correct order. The role is less daunting, and a lot more rewarding, than it sounds and those taking on this role will be offered the opportunity to shadow an experienced stage marshal.

Ticket collection Helper:

Volunteers on the ticket collection desk help distribute graduate tickets and welcome students and guests into the ceremonies. Volunteers are required to help for the 2 hours before each ceremony (i.e. if you are volunteering for the 10.30am ceremony your shift time is 8.20am-10.30am.)

Join the Graduation Procession:

Partake in the Graduation Procession and cross the stage with academics and senior leadership.

To volunteer / nominate:

  • Any member of staff can take on any of the above roles regardless of whether they hold a degree or not.

  • Staff can either volunteer themselves or nominate a fellow colleague.

  • There are no restrictions to the number of nominations slots you submit.

To volunteer or nominate, please click 'Register' and complete the 'Registration Information' fully at the check out screen.

Further information about the ceremonies, and the full schedule for the ceremonies, can be found on our website.

The Events and Ceremonies Team will contact all selected staff after Monday 27 November to make arrangements for a gown (if required.)

Should you have any questions or require any help with the application you can contact us at graduation@qmul.ac.uk

"I have been supporting the Events and Ceremonies team with stage marshalling at the summer and winter graduations for the past two years. It’s great to be a part of the wider event- you can’t help but love the buzz. Also, it’s a good feeling to help out other teams and colleagues with QMUL’s biggest and most important event in the calendar!"
