The Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign (QSIR) programmes are the latest iteration of a highly successful service improvement programme that has been delivered over many years to hundreds of staff involved in healthcare. This programme has been designed and developed by the ACT Academy, NHS Improvement and forms part of the organisation’s and systems aim to create a culture of continuous improvement by supporting staff to develop core quality improvement skills and knowledge. This learning will then help you support your colleagues in the use of practical tools and approaches to deliver quality improvement as part of the everyday delivery of our services.

The QSIR programme suit clinical and non-clinical staff involved in service improvement within their organisation and/or system. Each cohort typically consists of people from a range of backgrounds and professions. We believe this mix helps to make the programmes so vibrant.

This is a five day modular development programme that has been designed specifically to aid yourself and your colleagues in delivering the necessary improvements across your services. It will be run over a one month period (1 block of two days and 1 block of three days) for a maximum of 40 colleagues.

You will work through the following development modules:

  • Leading improvement

  • Project Management

  • Measurement for improvement

  • Engaging and Understanding Others

  • Enhancing Sustainability of Improvement

  • Creativity in improvement

  • Process mapping

  • Demand and capacity management

As a prerequisite of the QSIR Practitioner programme we ask that you have an improvement idea in mind to which you will be applying the learning.

During the course of the programme you will be asked to provide progress updates on your idea. You are also encouraged to maintain a record of learning points from your improvement work and that you support the sharing of your experience and learning with others across the organisation and/or system.
