Event description

Description

Please join us at the Blue Idol Meeting House for a shared lunch and talk by Harvey Gillman to celebrate Quaker Week.

The event will begin at 12:30 with a shared lunch. Please bring a dish to share with others. Following this we will enjoy a talk by Harvey Gillman with the opportunity to ask questions. We expect the afternoon to finish by 4 pm. Guests will also be able to enjoy the Blue Idol garden and see the exhibition in our barn about the history of William Penn and the Blue Idol.

A synopsis of the talk Harvey will give: The spiritual life is about hospitality. It begins with the self - that of God within; it extends to that of God in the neighbour - that of God between; it embraces the planet - that of God in all things. Quakers wish to be an inclusive society but what exactly does that mean for a religious community? We think we are welcoming, but can we be off-putting? Does including everyone and everything mean that we lose our distinctiveness and fear conflict and muffle our message? And what is our message?

This is a community event and all are welcome. We have disabled parking and the meeting house is accessible for wheelchair users. We also have a disabled toilet available. Unfortunately, we have not yet been able to install a hearing loop.
