About this event
Quantum Technologies Hubs' School 2025
14–20 December 2025 | University of Birmingham
Join up to 50 of the UK’s most promising postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers for an intensive week of world-class training in quantum technologies. Hosted by the UK Quantum Technology Research Hub in Sensing, Imaging and Timing (QuSIT) on behalf of all five UK Quantum Technology Hubs, the Winter School combines cutting-edge technical lectures with an interactive programme of transferable skills training.
Over the course of the week, you will:
- Learn from world-leading experts across sensing, imaging, timing, computing, and communications.
- Build your professional toolkit with sessions on networking, communication, leadership, commercialisation, public engagement, and equality, diversity & inclusion.
- Take part in evening panels, fireside chats, and networking events designed to foster collaboration and community.
- Connect with peers, industry leaders, and guest speakers to expand your network and explore future career paths.
The Winter School offers a supportive, inclusive, and highly interactive environment, equipping you with both the technical knowledge and professional skills needed to thrive as a quantum leader.
Applications are open to postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers with an interest in quantum technologies.
Spaces are limited — early application is encouraged.
What is Included?
The summer school if free to attend and accommodation and full board are provided. Attendees need to fund their own travel.
Travel Bursaries
To help ensure that financial circumstances are not a barrier to participation, we are offering a small number of travel bursaries of £500 each. These are intended for applicants who would not otherwise be able to attend the School. Please note that the bursary application process is separate from the standard application route.
Applicants who apply for a travel bursary but are not successful will not be offered a self-funded place, so you should only apply via the bursary route if you are unable to cover your own travel costs.
Eligibility
The UK Quantum Technologies Winter School 2025 is open to all postgraduate and postdoctoral early career researchers in quantum technologies.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive research community. We strongly encourage applications from early career researchers of all backgrounds, and particularly welcome those from groups currently under-represented in quantum technologies. EDI will be an important consideration in our selection process to help ensure a diverse cohort and a supportive, equitable learning environment where everyone can thrive.
If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to discuss with us any other barrier to your participation, please contact us.
Our aim is to create a balanced cohort representing the different themes of the School. All applications will first be checked to ensure they meet the eligibility criteria, are genuine, and demonstrate a clear interest in and benefit from attending the School. Eligible applicants will be placed into a selection pool, from which places will be allocated by ballot, with adjustments made as needed to ensure balance across themes.
Accessibility
We are committed to ensuring that our winter school is inclusive and accessible to everyone. If you require any reasonable adjustments to participate fully, please contact us. Please be assured that any such discussions will not affect your participation or assessment in the winter school.
