Quantum Technologies using Light and Matter - talk by Prof Ian Walmsley FRS
Thu 1 December 2016, 15:45 – 17:00 GMT
The Faculty of Physical Sciences and Engineering would like to invite you to a talk by Professor Ian Walmsley, Hooke Professor of Experimental Physics at the University of Oxford and Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation. Professor Walmsley is also the director of the NQIT (Networked Quantum Information Technologies) hub within the UK National Quantum Technology Programme.
Talk title: Quantum Technologies using Light and Matter
"Quantum mechanics provide a new paradigm for engineering design, promising new functionality for sensors, communications, simulation and computation based on the properties of superposition and entanglement. Hybrid systems of light and matter can provide all of the necessary elements needed to take advantage of the these features and to realise these new technologies. I will discuss the capabilities of some of these new quantum technologies and the way in which the strange properties of quantum light and matter enable them."
Tea & Coffee will be served from 15.45pm, the talk will start at 4.15pm.
