A free public talk by J.C. Séamus Davis​, Professor of Physics at the University of Oxford and University College Cork.

About this Event

Quantum Technology has the potential to be both one of the most beneficial and one of the most disruptive advances in the coming decades.  The First Quantum Revolution laid the physical foundations for computer chips, lasers, magnetic resonance imaging, communications and the internet. It underpins the Information Age through which we are living, in the same way as technologies based on classical physics underpinned the Industrial Revolution. But the Second Quantum Revolution is now beginning.  This rapidly accelerating transformation, will see further dramatic technological advances based on harnessing the full power of Quantum Mechanics to allow quantum computing, quantum communications, and even a quantum internet. So it is widely anticipated that the basic elements and structure of the information technology that now permeates our society and economy will be strongly impacted and radically altered. We will discuss the potential for benefit from Quantum Technology - which is great, and also the potential for disruption - which is very real.
