About this event
Join us for an afternoon of folk dance in Manchester's Gay Village! With folk music from the wonderful Chimera our ceilidh will be an afternoon of queer joy, good music, and chaotic dancing.
Accessibility Info
Venue:
The event is in The Church, a club on Canal Street. It has level access through the front doors and an accessible toilet. The venue is all on one level and there will be seating available.
Sensory:
The event will be loud, with live music and a caller shouting instructions for the dances. The venue may also be crowded with lots of people moving around. There is a separate room that will be a quieter space, however it is unlikely to be quiet due to the size/layout of the venue. The venue will be lit with artificial lighting (potentially coloured) and will not have any flashing lights.
Ceilidh Dancing:
The event is centered around dancing and the dances have not been adapted for disabled people. The dances mostly consist of walking back and forwards and spinning in circles, with clapping and holding hands. Sometimes this is quite fast and it can be hard work. Anyone who wants to join in is welcome to do so however they want, including using any mobility aids. The goal is to have fun together and it doesn't matter if you get the dances right. However, this will likely be difficult for some people. If you want to come to listen/watch without dancing contact us and we’ll sort you a reduced price watching ticket.
Other Info:
- All toilets in the venue are gender neutral.
- The event is held in a club, and the bar will be open and serving both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
- Due to the venue, this is an 18+ event.
- Unfortunately we are unable to provide a BSL interpreter, as we are a small event with very limited funds.
- Please contact us to arrange a free carer ticket if you need one.

Absolutely! The fun is in taking part, you don't need to get the dances right. Lots of us will be dancing badly.
The event is focused around dancing, but people are welcome to come just to watch and enjoy the music. You can get in touch with us on Instagram @quailidh for a reduced price watching ticket if you'd like.
