Description

Queer Localities: a two-day international conference

Birkbeck, University of London

30 November – 1 December 2017

Free and open to all, but please register your place

Queer Localities explores the recent turn to the local and the particular in queer historical work. Activists, heritage experts, community groups and historians look beyond sweeping national and metropolitan stories to explore the shape that locality gives to queer identities, communities, politics, families and histories. The conference includes papers, project reports and keynote presentations from:

  • Valerie Korinek, “The Prairies- Coming Out Strong”: Western Canadian Queer Communities, 1969-1985

  • Matt Cook, Alison Oram and Justin Bengry, Behind the Scene: queer beyond London

In association with the Raphael Samuel History Centre, the Queer Localities conference is part of a major two-year AHRC funded project ‘Sexualities and Localities’ …. Or as we prefer ‘Queer Beyond London’
