About this event

Hobbies • DIY

Queer Pottery Club is a creative, welcoming space for LGBTQ+ folks in Cornwall to come together, get their hands muddy, and make some magic out of clay. Whether you’ve never touched a lump of clay in your life or you’ve got a whole shelf of handmade mugs at home, this space is for you.

We know that being queer in rural areas (especially in Cornwall) can feel isolating at times. It’s not always easy to find your people or safe, relaxed spaces to just be. Queer Pottery Club is all about tackling that. It’s a chance to slow down, get off your phone, and connect with yourself, with clay, and with others who get it. There’s something grounding and calming about working with your hands, and pottery has been shown to help with stress, anxiety, and even low mood. Basically, it's like group therapy, but with mud and mugs.

You can come to just one session, or join us for all six—we’re keeping it flexible and pressure-free. We hope to build a little community of clay-loving queers who support each other and maybe even become mates beyond the studio.

The first session kicks off Sunday July 3rd, 5–8pm at Wedge Studio in Newquay, and it’ll be led by the brilliant Delphi Macpherson (aka @earthbound.creations), a talented local queer ceramicist who’ll guide you through the process with kindness and zero judgment.

Come for the clay, stay for the community. Let's make pots, pals, and something beautiful together.

This project is supported by FEAST, part of the Creative Kernow Group, with funding from Arts Council England and Cornwall County Council.

Frequently asked questions

Where should I park?

Sadly no parking on site—but don’t panic! We’re just a 3-minute strut (or stroll) from St George’s Road car park. Perfect chance to get your steps in before the fun begins.

Is this an event for allies?

Appreciate the love, This event is just for LGBTQ+ folks—we all need spaces where we can fully be ourselves, no filters, no explanations. Allies are awesome, but sometimes we need a break to just vibe with our own community. Think of it as a little queer-only group chat IRL

Do I need to have done pottery before?

No pottery experience needed at all! Whether you're a total newbie or a clay wizard, you're welcome. It's more about hanging out, having fun, and maybe making something wobbly but wonderful together.
