About this event
About the event
We hope to create a yoga community for LGBTQ+ folks to enjoy group practice and connect with others. Our classes will follow a gentle flow / slow vinyasa style, with a focus on finding some time for you, away from judgement or comparisons. We invite you to take some time to notice how you feel and move in anyway that feels right for you, with options to connect with your breath. We encourage choice in your practice and there are never any expectations on how you practice that day.
The classes will be run by various members of our teaching team, usually with one lead teacher and one supporting.
These classes are for queer folks who would like to practice yoga at reduced cost. Open to all abilities and experience. We will have around a 60 minute movement and meditation practice, finishing around 11am, followed by some time for a tea and chat. Group size will be up to 12 people.
If you are practicing without a chair you should be able to get yourself up and down from the floor, otherwise we suggest using a chair (this can be used for some or all of your practice). Please let us know in advance if you would like to practice on a chair so the teacher can be prepared. Do let us know if you have any concerns or questions about the practice.
Pricing
We offer tiered ticket options to help make our classes as financially accessible as possible. Please pay what you are able - something that isn’t an overstretch for you, but that helps keep our sliding scale sustainable so we can continue offering these classes.
Here’s a guide to help you choose:
- Free ticket: Please select this if you would not otherwise be able to attend a paid class. For example, if you are unwaged, have no financial resources, or are navigating the immigration system.
- Low income ticket: Please choose this if you are on a low income or receiving financial support (e.g. universal credit, disability benefits or similar)
- General admission ticket: Please choose this if you can comfortably meet your basic needs (e.g. rent, bills, food) and have some expendable income.
- Pay it forward ticket: Please choose this if you can comfortably meet your needs and would like to help cover the cost for someone who otherwise couldn’t attend.
Your donation supports our community teachers and helps cover venue hire so we can continue offering these inclusive spaces.
Refunds are eligible up to 24 hours before class start time - we will struggle to fill your space with short notice. If you are unable to make a class and are willing to offer your ticket to someone else please feel free to email us or share on our Whatsapp Community.
About the venue
The sessions will usually be held in the in the upstairs studio of the Salisbury Centre on Salisbury Road. There are bus links 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 14, 29, 30, 31, 33, 37, 47, 49, 51 close to the centre (5 mins walk). There is some free on street parking around the studio on Blacket Avenue. Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before class starts.
The studio is situated on the on the first floor up stairs with a handrail and unfortunately at the moment there is no lift (coming soon). Occasionally we are in the art room which is situated on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible. There is a printed schedule on the front door which will say which room we are in. Please send us an email before hand if you want to confirm before attending.
There are all gender toilets available throughout the building on the ground floor and one wheelchair accesible toilet.
When arriving at the building, the front door is locked so please press the doorbell for the studio (or art room) and someone will welcome you in and direct you to the space.
What to bring
Mats, blocks, and bolsters will be provided. Chairs can be provided if needed. We suggest you wear comfy clothes you can freely move in (joggers, shorts, T-shirts etc). You are welcome to bring a water bottle if you'd like, plus any other item you'd like to use with you during class (eye pillows, straps). There is a kitchen if you want tea or water refills.
Sensory information
There is a large window at the front of the studio looking into the garden. The studio is usually naturally lit. There is a road at the back of the studio so there could be some traffic noise and there are other people that use the building so you may hear doors closing. We usually play some quiet music.
The art room has windows on the ceiling and some small windows at the front. It is usually naturally lit with maybe one or two lamps on.
If you have any questions at all, please get in touch. Hope to see you there!
