QUENTIN BLAKE: Loose Lines in Pen & Ink - A Festive Drawing Workshop

Join us for a joy-filled drawing session inspired by the unmistakable energy of Quentin Blake. Together we will explore loose, lively lines in pen and ink, looking closely at how Blake captures movement, character and humour with such simplicity and confidence.

This special festive edition focuses on winter scenes and cheerful seasonal chaos, all approached through Blake’s playful spirit. Expect flying wrapping paper, wonky trees, bundled-up characters in motion, and animals with oversized personalities. We will guide you through a relaxed series of exercises, from quick gesture sketches to a small winter illustration of your own.

Perfect for all levels, especially anyone wanting to loosen their line, draw with feeling, and enjoy a mindful, uplifting creative hour.

You will need:

We suggest the materials below but you can join with anything you have. You can always invest / search for new materials after the class and draw along again with the recording access.

• Paper and Pencil

Recommended:

• Watercolour paper
• Ink (Waterproof)
• Dip pen / fountain pen /fine liner (with waterproof ink)/ bamboo pen
• Watercolours and a brush
• Rubber/Eraser
• Some kitchen roll/toilet roll

Optional:

Prefold paper or buy some blank watercolour greeting cards & envelopes if you want to make your drawings into cards!

This class is suitable for all levels!

Everyone is welcome to join this Pay-What-You-Can class

Tickets:

We suggest an amount of £20. However, we understand that may not be possible for everybody. Please be honest and pay what you can afford so that we may continue to offer our sessions on this basis whilst also giving our tutors a sustainable wage.

There is also a ticket option to "Pay It Forward" to support us and our students! We offer classes for free to those who can't afford the minimum amount (If this is you please email us to join for free). This continues to ensure our classes are available to everyone!

Once booked:

You will receive a confirmation email and be able to access information on how to join the event via your eventbrite "Online Event Page" You can access this by signing into eventbrite or creating an account using the email address that you booked with.

In the Class:

You can't be seen or heard in our classes, your audio and video are automatically turned off and there's no way these can be turned on. You can talk to us and others in the class in the chat box!

We love to see your drawings or anything else our classes inspire! You can share them with us by tagging us on instagram (@londondrawinggroup) or emailing us if you don't have socials.

About the Tutor:

Frances @frances.stanfield is an artist and a founding member of London Drawing Group. Frances' art practice is rooted in drawing and moves between printmaking and painting. She studied Illustration at Falmouth College University and met Luisa and Lucy, the other co-founders of LDG, during a scholarship place at The Royal Drawing School Central.

Frances' teaching practice is all about using traditional drawing techniques and experimentation alongside an open and friendly approach with the hope that she will help you to draw and make art with confidence (whilst having a lot of of fun!)
