Question Time: Air Quality Matters
Event Information
Description
Do you have a question about tackling air pollution in Southampton?
Join us on Tuesday 24th April for a chance to put your question to our ‘Question Time’ panel - candidates from the political parties in Southampton will be ready to debate the topic of dirty air.
After a complementary drinks reception there will be a one hour panel debate chaired by Dr James Dyke, University of Southampton.
We would like this to be an opportunity for the politicians to tell us about their hopes, wishes and dreams for cleaning up Southampton's air and how they can work together to achieve a healthier city for all.
Our panellists are:
-
Chris Hammond - Labour Party
-
Jeremy Moulton - Conservative Party
-
Katherine Barbour - Green Party
-
Richard Blackman - Liberal Democrats
-
Andrew Pope - Southampton Independents
Please register for your free ticket so we know how many people to expect.
If you would like to put a question to the panel, please email the Clean Air Southampton team: cleanairsouthampton@gmail.com. We will be collating all the questions and the most popular ones will be asked on the night.
Air pollution is linked with 40,000 deaths every year in the UK, and our port city of Southampton is one of the top ten UK cities for dirty air. There are no safe limits for air pollution and we need to protect those most vulnerable to its effects - children, the elderly and people living close to busy roads and the port are most at risk.
How do we tackle this public health emergency in the face of austerity?
Will the proposed Clean Air Zone solve the problem?
How can we develop an efficient, sustainable and affordable transport system for the city?
Who are the big polluters and how do we get them to pay?
This event is being hosted by Clean Air Southampton with the generous support of Solent University, the Safe and Just Operating Space for Southampton project (University of Southampton) and The Southampton Collective.
