Event description

Description

This half day course will cover handling questions and complaints and how the legislation dealing with handling requests for information interacts with a complaints process.

It will also cover how to recognise and respond to vexatious requests.

To respond to complaints, you need to understand what your council can do and what it can’t and how decisions are made.

This course will cover:

  • Answering questions and recognising requests for information
  • Transparency
  • Why complaints are important
  • Your role in the complaints process
  • How to handle a complaint
  • Access to information held in a complaint file
  • Vexatious requests – how the law defines them and what you can do including a recent case law update.

The tutor is a solicitor and former Head of Legal and Monitoring Officer who has advised and trained on the Freedom of Information Act 2000 from the outset and has had responsibility for compliance with information legislation at both district and unitary councils. She also dealt with Code of Conduct complaints as Monitoring Officer and has investigated many complaints on behalf of numerous authorities since starting her own practice in 2011.

Registration will commence at 9:30am with the course starting promptly at 10:00am. Refreshments on arrival during the coffee break. Free Parking is available although it does fill up quickly.

Cancellation Policy

A full refund will be given if 14 days or more notice, prior to the date of the training course, is given.
