Exhibition opening by edge textile artists and readings by Gerda Stevenson celebrating poems and textiles in tribute to women of Scotland.

About this Event

The exhibition `Quines: poems and textiles in tribute to women of Scotland' will be on display throughout the Central Library during March 2020, with a launch date of 7th March, the eve of International Women’s Day. It celebrates and explores the richly diverse contribution women have made to Scottish history and society. edge members have selected inspiring poems from Gerda Stevenson's book Quines, interpreting them in a personal and diverse way.

Gerda will be presenting a reading of poems represented in the exhibition in the George Washington Browne Room lasting 30 minutes at 2.00 and 3.00pm. Refreshments are available on the Mezzanine area adjacent to the George Washington Browne Room and guided tours of the exhibition will be led throughout the afternoon.

You are welcome to drop into the exhibition but numbers for the readings are limited and access is by ticket. This is for the 2.00-2.30pm reading of poems. A further session is available to book at 3.00pm.

edge textile artists scotland has been operating as a group since 1999. It was formed by a merger of three art college textile groups (Edinburgh Dundee and Glasgow). We are proud to continue exhibiting and promoting excellence in contemporary textile art in Scotland. The strength of the work produced by the members lies in those original art college principles of technical expertise, diversity of subject and creative approach to design.

Gerda Stevenson, award-winning writer/actor/director/singer-songwriter, works in theatre, TV, film, radio and opera throughout Britain and abroad. Publications include: If This Were Real (Smokestack Books, 2013), translated into Italian – Se Questo Fosse Vero (Edizioni Ensemble, Rome, 2017); Inside & Out (Scotland Street Press, 2019); Edinburgh, (Allan Wright Photographic, 2019). Quines: Poems in tribute to Women of Scotland, (Luath Press, 2018), described by Jackie Kay in The Observer as “Fabulous – a ground-breaker of a book”, will go into a second edition this year, when it will also be published in Italy.
