About this event

Quip Shed Comedy continues to host its monthly comedy gig at Linden House in Hammersmith on the first Thursday of every month.

For our July show, we have an incredible line-up, featuring Ian Smith, Tadiwa Mahlunge, host Lyle Barke, and our headliner Phil Wang!

Our opener, Ian Smith, is an award-winning comedian, actor and writer.

Since starting at a young age, Ian has developed a reputation as an exciting, creative comic. Mixing conversational, energetic storytelling and observations with unique set pieces and an exceptional skill for improvisation – Ian is a regular at the biggest comedy clubs in the UK.

Ian has appeared on BBC Three at the Fringe, BBC3 panel show Sweat the Small Stuff and Channel 5 series The Funny Thing About… He was also one third of popular Dave podcast, The Magic Sponge, alongside Rob Beckett, which has previously topped the iTunes comedy charts.

Ian’s Edinburgh Fringe shows have received critical acclaim, award-nominations and runs at Soho Theatre. His fourth solo show, Snowflake, was a big success, winning an Amused Moose Comedy Award and a ThreeWeeks Editors’ Award. He was then invited to perform the show at New Zealand Comedy Festival. In 2018, Ian took his fifth solo show, Craft, to the Edinburgh Fringe – receiving further acclaim, touring the show in Dubai, returning to New Zealand and transferring to Soho Theatre.

2019 saw Ian return to New Zealand Comedy Festival and perform on the New Zealand Comedy Gala (TVNZ). Over the past few years Ian has cemented regular writing work on The News Quiz, The Now Show and Newsjack (BBC Radio 4), written two of his own web series’ (Hope You Come Up Here and 100 Reasons to Hate…) and written for various comedians (including for Mock the Week).

“Fantastically funny” - The Times

“Proper star quality” - The Guardian

“A very funny man indeed” - TimeOut

“Catch him now before his inevitable jump to the big time” - The Telegraph

Tadiwa Mahlunge was billed as one of the country's top new comedy acts by The York Press, and has performed at the Greenman, Brighton Comedy Garden, Camp Wildfire, Aberystwyth and Greenwich Comedy Festivals alongside the biggest names in comedy, as well as providing tour support for Kiri Pritchard-McLain, and the TV warm-up for Desiree Burch’s Amazon Prime special.

Tadiwa has performed at historic venues such as The Clapham Grand, The Greenwich Maritime Museum, The Old Vic (Bristol), The National Gallery and of course, he's a regular at the Comedy Store.

“He is ludicrously hard working so when you pair that with his natural talent it means every time you see him he's twice the comic he was - which was exceptional before” - Kiri Pritchard-McLean

Our headliner, Phil Wang, is one of the UK’s most exciting stand-up comedians, who recently recorded his first Netflix special at the London Palladium. He has appeared on countless shows including hosting Live at the Apollo (BBC2), Have I Got News For You (BBC1), QI (BBC2), Would I Lie to You? (BBC1), 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (C4), Roast Battle (Comedy Central), Drunk History (Comedy Central), The Great British Bake Off: Extra Slice (C4) and is a regular guest throughout series 7 of Taskmaster (DAVE). Previously, Phil recorded a fifteen-minute stand-up special for Netflix as part of The Comedy Lineup, one of only two non-US acts in the series.

Phil has performed at international comedy festivals including Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the New Zealand Comedy Festival. His latest critically acclaimed live show, Philly Philly Wang Wang, broke records at the 2019 Edinburgh Fringe, selling out its entire run before the festival even began, and subsequently selling out a final extra show in the 750-seater Pleasance Grand. His subsequent national tour was extended due to phenomenal demand and included two shows at the London Palladium.

We cannot wait to see you there!
