Event description

Description

The use of R for statistical programming is becoming more widespread within the scientific community. However, there are currently few accessible, comprehensive R training opportunities geared towards specific research areas at King's and other London universities. Our workshops seek to address this lack for researchers in analytical chemistry, forensic analysis and the environmental sciences, and emphasize hands-on learning in a peer-led environment.

This workshop will provide a brief introduction to graphics in R and RStudio. We will focus on the use of base graphics in R as well as the package ggplot2, with topics appropriate for new R users from the analytical and environmental sciences.

These topics will include: understanding graphical layout in R, plot annotation, the use of color, exporting high-quality figures for publication, scripting (from excel spreadsheet to final published output), and suggestions for good practice in graphical design. Worked examples of common plots (scatter, box, histogram etc.) will be used to address these topics.
