Content: If you have never bid for research funding before, what do you need to know? This workshop will provide some hints and tips to the new and improving bidder, so that they can learn from common mistakes.

The workshop aims to help you plan for your research career through gaining knowledge about how to win funding for your research.  It will raise awareness of three areas: the function of research grant applications; how and why grants are awarded; and what helps applications stand out in competition.

The planned learning outcomes include:

  • Gain awareness of the research funding environment : key funders; research policy; success rates
  • Understand how to be a fundable researcher: where to start; where to look for funding; how to get good advice; gain awareness of the bidding process
  • Understand how funding agencies make decisions: peer review and assessment criteria
  • Analyse grant application examples to obtain hints and tips of what makes a successful application
