About this Event

Race towards a fairer society: Challenging the Status Quo in Society

About the event: The Poverty Truth Team from Cheshire West and Chester Council invite you to take part in a workshop based around real life experiences of young people in West Cheshire. The session allows you to understand the struggles young people face by walking a mile in their shoes. Working towards a more compassionate way of thinking, removing the stigma attached to people in poverty and hopefully leading to a fairer future!

This event will include the opportunity to view a short fictional film- How we live, developed with support from television producer and screenwriter Phil Redmond CBE and other industry professionals. How we Live is a powerful film which raises awareness and understanding of the issues young people face, caused by poverty and is largely shot through the eyes of a young person.

Who the event is aimed at: This topic is so important to anyone who in their life, profession or future profession, needs to have a person-centred approach and to look at the barriers surrounding that ideal non-judgemental practice – that is everyone then!

What you will gain from attending: This workshop is about looking at our society and asking questions:

 Should all young people get a fair shot in life?

 Are we truly thinking about being diverse if we don’t speak up for those who can’t?

 Why do we need to speak truth to power?

 How can we champion the voiceless?

 Is poverty’s stigma making people invisible?

The link to join this event will be sent to all those booked on in advance of the event
