Event description
Thriller Writer Rachel Abbott in conversation with debut novelist Tish Delaney - being Northern Irish is everything!

About this event

Novelist Tish Delaney talks to Rachel Abbott about her debut novel, Before My Actual Heart Breaks, and how she recreates in the book her Northern Irish upbringing in rural county Tyrone at the height of The Troubles.

Growing up at the height of the Troubles - the sectarian war between Protestant Unionists and Catholic Nationalists - life was about having fun and getting an education and going out to dancehalls that could be bombed because you still wanted to be able to meet someone and get married one day. Everyone, Catholics and Protestants, were at exactly the same carry on – they just wanted to have a normal life too! In any conflict, there are only ever a handful of extremists, everyone else is just trying to get the groceries home safe.

Join Tish and Rachel in this enjoyable conversation of writing a first novel, of life during The Troubles, and capturing the essence of people in your life because you never want them to fade.

Rachel Abbott is the bestselling author of the DCI Tom Douglas thrillers, which have sold over 4 million copies in the English language and have been translated into more than 20 languages. She is also the author of the Stephanie King series, published by Wildfire Books. The first in this series - And So It Begins - was a Sunday Times top thriller of 2019.
