Racial diversity - responding to Too Hot to Handle
Overview
* Please note this session is for HPMA members only**
*This session is for those in HR/OD/ Workforce roles**
Summary:
The 2024 Too Hot to Handle report put racism in the NHS in the spotlight. In this webinar, we consider the report’s conclusions, its legal implications and practical steps for effective cultural change.
Aim:
To deliver an interactive and engaging session that covers the legal issues in an accessible way with a focus on practical steps employers can take to create an equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace.
Objectives:
Learning the lessons from the employment tribunal cases highlighted in the report; understanding what racism is and how this may manifest itself in the workplace; an employer’s duties under the Equality Act 2010; how to undertake and effectively manage race discrimination cases; how to eliminate rather than defend discrimination; how to identify patterns of behaviour that could, taken together, be racist.
Outcome: To empower staff, managers, leaders and HR teams to report and respond effectively to concerns raised and how to achieve a positive culture change.
Prework: None – though we recommend reading the Too Hot to Handle Report.
