Event description
A time for listening to people's experiences of racism in the church & community and for sharing your experiences & visions for action.

About this event

A time for listening to people's experiences of racism in the church & community.

A time for sharing our experiences & visions for action.

…if not now, then when?

Please join us for this significant gathering where we will be taking time to listen to people's experiences of racism in the Church and wider community, sharing and reflecting on our own experiences of injustice as a diverse community, and considering what our action for transformation might look like.

Speakers for thsi event are:

  • Bevan Powell Connexional Officer for EDI,
  • Reverend Jill Marsh, Connexional Inclusive Church Implementation Officer,
  • Reverend Jennie Sweet Kirby, Retired Methodist Minister and
  • Jasmine Yeboah, former Youth President of the Methodist Church.

We aim for this to be a safe space where people, whatever their backgrounds and experiences can openly and honestly share and question, without embarrassment, to then feel equipped to act.

This gathering is led by the East Anglia District of the Methodist Church in Britain. All are welcome! In the Methodist Church, despite a long period of serious engagement with issues injustice, we are still far from living out the four Marks of an Inclusive Church, as described by the Methodist Council:

  • Welcomes all…who desire to know more of the love of God;
  • Is disciplined in the face of discrimination;
  • Celebrates Diversity;
  • Represents its diversity throughout its life and structures.

We are actively on a journey of transformation and discipleship...

Please join us, and invite others, to widen and deepen our conversations and action for change, towards justice, dignity and solidarity.

There will be more opportunities to engage in justice symposia through 2021 and beyond. Please review our calendar {HERE} to review the learning and development opportunities available that seek to help enable and support an Inclusive Methodist Church
