Racism and Inequality - Time to Talk
Event Information
About this event
Newham Council is hosting the third of a series of Time to Talk sessions focused on tackling racism, inequality and disproportionality within our borough.
With over 110 attendees at previous sessions in June and October, we have heard the issues and desire for action.
As we approach February’s Race Equality Week with the theme for the year being #ActionNotJustWords, we will be hearing from people across the borough on the action that has been taken to tackle the issues within our borough.
We will also have Dr Joy White speak at the session - Dr Joy White is a lecturer, author and Forest Gate resident. She is the author of Urban Music and Entrepreneurship: Beats, Rhymes and Young People’s Enterprise, one of the first books to foreground the socio-economic significance of the UK urban music economy, with particular reference to Grime music. Joy’s latest book is Terraformed: Young Black Lives in the Inner City. Terraformed uses the history of Newham as an example of how young Black lives in the inner cities of the world are affected by racism, capitalism and austerity.
Come along to hear the action being taken and provide your thoughts on current impact and what further action should be taken.
This session will be held on-line and the link will be circulated closer to time.
