This research talk and archival session at Cambridge University Library will introduce attendees to Radical Deviance: A Journal of Transgendered Politics, published in Britain by the Gender and Sexuality Alliance from 1996-1999. Produced as a forum for novel theories of gender transition from and against those that had already been defined by feminism and queer theory, this session will reflect on the significance of Radical Deviance to reshaping histories of trans cultural and theoretical production. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the copies of Radical Deviance held by the University Library.

The session will take place in the Milstein Seminar Room, Cambridge University Library. For directions, speak to library staff at the front desk, who will also provide visitor passes for all attendees who are not library members. See here for further information on getting to Cambridge University Library. Lunch will be provided after the session in the University Library Tea Room: please respond if you would like to attend, or if you have any dietary requirements.

There is step-free access to the Milstein Seminar Room. See here for further information on accessibility.

The session will be led by Dr Evelyn Whorrall-Campbell. Evelyn Whorrall-Campbell is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art. They completed a PhD in film and screen studies at the University of Cambridge in 2024, with a thesis on trans theory and artistic practice in 1990s Britain. In 2026 they will begin a Leverhulme early career fellowship at the University of Edinburgh. Recent publications include articles for British Art Studies, Art Monthly, world picture, and Cambridge Literary Review.
