Event description

Description

The Working Class Movement Library is proud to present another in its series of Radical Readings fundraising events - 'Those who were there - the people at Peterloo have their say'. Christopher Eccleston, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Mike Joyce, Nico Mirallegro and Maxine Peake, who are all strong supporters of the Library, are booked to appear. They will be reading accounts of the dreadful event of Peterloo - concentrating on the reports of those people who were actually there rather than on later comments. There will also be poetry from Oliver James Lomax, and ballads from Jennifer Reid. The event is devised and introduced by Royston Futter, Working Class Movement Library trustee.

Everyone at the Library is delighted that these tremendous performers have agreed so willingly to contribute their time and their talent to boost its fundraising appeal. All proceeds will go to support the Working Class Movement Library.

We are most grateful to the University of Salford for hosting this event.

FAQs

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

By Train

There are plenty of trains which stop at Salford Crescent coming from Manchester Piccadilly, Oxford Road and Deansgate, as well as from Manchester Victoria and Salford Central. Turn left onto the main road at the top of the steps at the station, and Maxwell Hall is a University of Salford building a short way down the road.

From the direction of Manchester centre, get off at the Salford University bus stop, and cross the road to the University campus.

Buses arrive regularly from:

Piccadilly Gardens (34, 36, 37, 38, X34)
Shudehill (8, 67, 100)
Oxford Road/Princess Street (V1, V2).

Bus 50 comes from The Lowry/MediaCity (and from Princess Street in Manchester).
