The science of radioactive waste disposal has been the focus of international research programmes for a number of years. One aspect of this research has been the role that microorganisms play in the evolution of radioactive waste disposal sites and how they influence the safety of these facilities. Researchers at the University of Huddersfield have been involved in this area of research for a number of years. This lecture will provide an introduction to radioactive waste, the current waste disposal options under consideration internationally and how the research carried out at Huddersfield University has contributed to this important area of research.
The lecture starts at 6.30pm, with complimentary refreshments available from 6.00pm in the Canalside West foyer.
