Railworkers 200: two centuries of rail workers and their struggles

By Workers' Liberty

Overview

200 years of class struggle on Britain's railways.

2025 marks the bicentenary of the first passenger-carrying, locomotive-hauled railway journey, from Stockton to Darlington. It was the birth of the modern railway.

While the rail industry and rail enthusiasts celebrate two hundred years of rail transport, Janine Booth has written a book about the workers who built, maintained and operated the railway over the last 200 years, the issues they face and the battles they have waged.

Janine Booth will be speaking alongside Martin Eady (author of a history of industrial relations on London Transport)
