Event description

Description

UP Projects’ FLOATING CINEMA will tour the waterways from Sheffield to Hull presenting IN DIALOGUE, a programme
of feature films, documentaries and a newly commissioned artwork by Leeds based artist Harry Meadley.

Feature Film

Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai AKA Rain The Colour of Blue With A Little Red In It (2015)

Cert: (E)

75 mins

Director: Christopher Kirkley

Akounak tells the universal story of a musician trying to make it “against all odds,” set against the backdrop of the raucous subculture of Tuareg guitar. The protagonist, real life musician Mdou Moctar, must battle fearce competition from jealous musicians, overcome family conflicts, endure the trials of love, and overcome his biggest rival - himself. Stylistically the film borrows from the Western rock-u-drama and is a homage to Prince’s 1984 “Purple Rain”. Carried by stunning musical performances from Mdou, the film is equally a window into modern day Tuareg guitar in the city of Agadez as it is an experiment in modern ethnographic film-making and new techniques of cross cultural collaboration.

Episodes of Harry Meadley's new artwork On the Bench will be shown in advance of the feature film.
