Rainbows in Washing Lines and Cats in Clouds

By Make it Better (mitber) CIC

Overview

A joy-filled creative writing and art workshop for young people exploring what we can do to help our mental health

PLEASE NOTE: This session is intended for young people from 11 - 18 (or young people up to the age of 25 for young people with additional needs).

Led by writer and poet Lucy Beckley with support from Make It Better’s founder, Ruth Purdy and supported by Your Art Connect, Rainbows in Washing Lines and Cats in Clouds will be a joy-filled workshop of creative exploration, engaging our senses and creating unique pieces of poetry, cyanotype prints and collage.

We’ll explore where we can find joy, how we can use our everyday ‘ordinary’ as inspiration, how journaling can support us to process our emotions and use photography and collage to create unique pieces of art.

It will be an opportunity for all participants to think about what they can do to look after their health and wellbeing.

To close, we will all add to a ‘Rainbow Washing Line of Hope’ and ‘Constellation of Connection’ committing to hopeful actions to help our mental health and think about who we can reach out to when we need help

Participants will leave the session with a Joy List Poem, a cloud collage, a cyanotype picture and some creative writing prompts that they can use at home.

This session is intended for young people up to the age of 25.

This session supports Cornwall Council's Mental Health and Engagement Project, which will contribute to and inform The 2026 Director of Public Health Report for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

During the session, we will be collecting and capturing anonymous responses about what participants can do to look after their health and wellbeing, think about why it is important to them and consider where they can find help.

By engaging in this session, participants agree for their anonymous responses to be included and form part of:

• The 2026 Director of Public Health Report for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

• The promotion of the report

• Wider Cornwall Council service planning and development for all age mental health programmes, including the suicide prevention strategy for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

PLEASE NOTE: This session is intended for young people from 11 - 18 (or young people up to the age of 25 for young people with additional needs).
