Description
We’re delighted to welcome you to the rescheduled Raising the Standards Day 2019, an annual knowledge sharing day that brings partners together to meet and share best practice project ideas and experiences.
This year, we’ll have inspirational speakers delivering presentations and workshops that will inspire and empower you to deliver ambitious and innovative walking and cycling projects, helping to restore balance to Scotland’s streets. There will also be opportunity to find out about our various funding streams, funded by Transport Scotland, and other funding opportunities through a marketplace.
Also – in a latest update: we can now confirm that Scotland’s recently-appointed Active Nation Commissioner, Lee Craigie, will open the event and will be in attendance throughout the day. She’s keen to meet people working to deliver active travel projects, to hear your experiences and be inspired by your ambitions.

A panel of Sustrans’ partners to deliver five minute presentations on exemplar projects and topics, and participate in a facilitated panel discussion on use of funding, challenges faced when delivering active travel projects and how these were overcome.

Breakout sessions
At this year’s Raising the Standards Day, delegates have the choice of two breakout sessions in the afternoon. During registration, you will be asked to select two of the three sessions available.
Green Infrastructure, Rene Sommer-Lindsay,
The Green Infrastructure session will show examples of multifunctional green infrastructure in Copenhagen and address some of the (technical, economical and bureaucratic) challenges and opportunities of integrating green infrastructure in active transport projects
Healthy Streets, Lucy Saunders
This session will give you hands-on experience of assessing a street to see how healthy it is. You will apply the Healthy Streets Approach to a Dundee street to idneitfy what would be the best thing you could do to make that street healthier.
Engaging with communities in active travel projects, Planning Aid Scotland
A peer to peer learning session on how others have involved the community with their infrastructure projects, the benefits this has given them and how they overcame challenges. With speakers from Planning Aid Scotland, Orkney Council and Scottish Canals.
