About the Course
This introductory course aims to equip frontline workers with the knowledge and confidence to respond to and support, in an appropriate and effective manner, individuals affected by rape and sexual assault.
What will I learn?
The legal definitions of rape & sexual assault
Have an awareness of the impact of rape & sexual assault
Be aware of appropriate responses to disclosure of rape or sexual assault
Be aware of the police response & procedures in relation to rape & sexual assault
Be aware of the medical aspects of rape and sexual assault and sexual health
Be aware of appropriate referral routes for clients
Be aware of key legal issues and the Crown Prosecution Procedure
Who is it for?
This one day course is suitable for anyone working in an area where they may receive disclosures of rape or sexual assault. Please note that this is BASIC awareness training aimed at people who have not had any previous training on this issue.
What will the course look like?
The course is delivered by Talking Spaces Counselling Service at Saint Michael’s with input from North Yorkshire Police, Crown Prosecution Service & Sexual Health Clinic. There will be a good proportion of expert knowledge offered by the above presenters and group exercises in peer to peer setting.
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

All food served is freshly prepared on the premises. Kindly advise us in advance of the day of any special dietary requirements.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The nearest train station is Hornbeam Park which is on the main Leeds to York line. The station is a 10 minute walk from the hospice and offers easy access. Alternatively, should you choose to drive there is ample car parking available at the Hospice. See hospice web site for directions.

What's the refund policy?
Your place at the event will be confirmed following receipt of your booking and fee. If a delegate cancels attendance at a study session, a refund of 80% of the invoice value will be made provided a minimum of 30 days prior notice is given. If a delegate cancels attendance at a session, a refund of 50% of the invoice value will be made, provided a between 14-29 days prior notice is given. If a delegate cancels attendance at a study session with less than 14 days notice, no refund will be given and the delegate will remain liable for the full value of the course. If a delegate fails to attend a study session and no written notice of cancellation has been provided, the delegate will remain liable for the full value of the course
