Philippe Sands and Christina Lamb discuss the obstacles for prosecuting the crime of rape and why successful convictions are so rare.

About this event

Christina Lamb’s groundbreaking research documenting rape in modern conflicts is leading the advocacy for a rights based debate on rape as a wartime weapon. In her book, Our Bodies, Their Battlefield, Lamb brings voice to the astounding scale of this pervasive and relatively undiscussed tactic when she says it is “the most neglected” war crime of the 1949 Geneva Convention.

The veteran foreign journalist will be in conversation with leading senior international law barrister, professor and prize winning author, Philippe Sands QC. His book East West Street: On the origins of genocide and crimes against humanity is a personal exploration of the origins of international law, focusing on the Nuremberg Trials.

They will discuss the obstacles for prosecuting the crime of rape and why successful convictions are so rare.

As well as in-person this event is held online.
