Event description

Description

What could you or your organisation do with £100,000?

To mark the Royal Astronomical Society's 200th anniversary the RAS has £1 million pounds to give away to allow the RAS to work in partnership with charities and organisations that we have never worked with before (so don't worry if your organisation doesn't traditionally offer STEM opportunities) to develop new and innovative ideas that will help engage a new audience with astronomy or geophysics.

Want to know more about how you could apply? Want to know more about the scheme and meet some of the scientists that you could get to work with? Pop along to our community meeting to find out all the answers to your questions!

Who are the RAS?

The RAS is the UK’s learned society for astronomy and geophysics. For scientists we provide forums to share ideas and work, a journal covering recent developments as well as access to grants to help with their work. For the public we provide free evening lectures, and information about astronomy events. However this is an area we would like to develop.

What are the RAS 200 grants?

•             Grants of up to £100,000

•             To be spent on a project that promotes astronomy and geophysics through different mediums (weather                stargazing, film, art or sport, the more creative the better!).

•             The project should last five years.

•             Chance to work in partnership with the RAS for five years.

•             Available to charities or organisations who would not normally deliver much/any astronomy and                          geophysics projects.

•             Support and assistance from the RAS and its fellows to help you develop your project.

•             Open to applications from outside the UK.

The agenda for the afternoon will be:

12:30pm:  Welcome and Introduction to the RAS, RAS 200 and Sky & Earth project, aims and evaluation criteria and timetable.
